ONE8, which comprises of 8 of Africa’s most outstanding urban/hip-hop/RnB acts was holed up in a Chicago studio over the past few weeks recording vocals and video scenes for the recently released ‘Hands Across the World’ single. Members of the group are Navio (Uganda), JK(Zambia), Amani(Kenya), Fally Ipupa(DRC), 2face(Nigeria), Alikiba(Tanzania), Movaizhaleine(Gabon) and 4×4(Ghana). R.Kelly’s participation in the project was kept secret until 2 days before the single was officially released.

The single was launched in Johannesburg, South Africa over the past week and will be released by Rockstar 4000 Music Entertainment, a pan-African 360-degree music and entertainment production company of the same town and a partner of Sony Entertanment.

In the song’s video, which has garnered 40000 views since it was posted on the ONE8 youtube channel 3 days ago is spreading virally. The artists are seen showing great chemistry as they do their individual verses and harmoniously sing the chorus. The world map and flags of various countries are shown in the background, with great emphasis on Africa. This groundbreaking production is one of the many signs of the global musical focus shifting to Africa. Before the 2010 football world cup in South Africa, Africa’s and African themed music begun to bubble. From Damian Marley and Nas rolling out Distant Relatives, to K’Naan being the star of the show with Wave Your Flag to Shakira sampling an African group with It’s Time for Africa (Waka Waka). More can surely be expected to come especially with the latest development involving R.Kelly and ONE8. The group is expected to release an album with ‘freedom’ themed songs and other interesting material soon.

As far as R.Kelly is concerned, he also has a few projects in store for his fans for December this year and 2011. A new album entitled Love Letter is expected in December this year and a follow up called Zodiac next year.

In the meantime, here are the lyrics to Hands Across the World’ and the song’s video.
ey world stand up
Stretch out your hands
one8 represent the dream
Africa
feel free
One8 let’s get them
I’m reaching out to the poor people
The sick and the alone
I’m reaching out to the fortunate who can build their own homes
I’m reaching out to the ones who seems to have lost their way
And I’m calling on all the ones who can show them a brighter day
I believe if you believe then we can achieve anything
So lift your voice and give it everything
Now let you’re your heart sing
Africa to America
Everywhere common and spread some love
We got faith and a little hope
I believe that we can heal the globe
It’s time to open our eyes and see
That all we need is you and me
Unity’s like harmony
So let me see you stretch your hands across the world
Hands across the world…
I’m reaching out to all of the hoods and the streets everywhere
I’m reaching out to all in need to show the world that you care
Can’t go no more you’ve given up and your energy’s running low
I’m reaching out to the pastors and the words they give us all
I believe that if you believe then we can achieve anything
So lift your voice and give it everything
Now let you’re your heart sing
Africa to America
Everywhere common and spread some love
We got faith and a little hope
I believe that we can heal the globe
It’s time to open our eyes and see
That all we need is you and me
Unity’s like harmony
So let me see you stretch your hands across the world
Hands across the world…
It’s the world main project my desire
The power of love you cannot deny ya
Let’s go people it’s time to go higher
Let’s spread your wings I believe you can fly ya
We can do anything if we believe
Let me see you dance if you got victory
If we come together we can make history
So let me see you reach
Africa to America
Everywhere common and spread some love
We got faith and a little hope
I believe that we can heal the globe
It’s time to open our eyes and see
All we need is you and me
Unity’s like harmony
So let me see you stretch your hands across the world
Hands across the world
