New MWA-UK Face: Astride Costa

The Miss West Africa International organisation has officially announced that Astride Costa is the new bearer of the title Miss West Africa International-UK 2010. Astride was first runner up in last year’s contest. The London based Bissau Guinean replaces Madeleine Glatz, who left the role a few days ago citing differences with the Miss West Africa (MWA) organisation.

In a statement she posted online, Madeleine said that she had left because of some restrictions in her contract with MWA. However, she did not wish to discuss the underlying details. On the other hand, MWA wrote in a press statement that Astride Costa stepped up to the plate “when Madeleine was asked to step down”.

The MWA statement also says that “Astride Costa is young, enthusiastic, ambitious and ready to make Africa proud”. The 20 year old was born in Portugal and is bilingual. According to MWA, Astride is a designer and she designed her dress and her sister Ivelena’s, for the MWA competition. She has established great designing deals which she will reveal to the world soon. She is also an aspiring singer, who sung on-stage at the MWA competition in November 2010.

On the philanthropy side of things, Astride vows to dedicate her charitable activities to children with Down’s Syndrome and will be setting up a fundraisr soon. MWA promises all of the pageant’s fans that they will have “a Queen to remember” in Astride.

In the online statement, MWA carried on to wish Madeleine Glatz the best in her future, stating that “…she has a bright future ahead of her.”
