About a year ago, MOBO nominated Nigerian/UK artist, JJC, brought us a banging single entitled “We Are Africans”. A strong and militant tune, in which himself and compatriots reminded the world of where they come from and what that means to them. The song got several remixes, including one with Femi Kuti, the son of African musical hero, Fela and another one with Ghana/UK rapper Sway.

A few weeks ago, JJC shot a video for yet another remix and this one features his brothers and a sister from the south. Zimbabwe to be specific. The artists are the dynamic duo, BKay N Kazz, rappers Jusa Dementor and Roby Gee, singers Cyntia Mare, Jonah, Tk-Paradza and Decibel who are based between UK, Malaysia and New Zealand. It is a ground breaking project, which shows that young African Diasporans are willing to come together to do positive music and strongly and confidently represent their continent, which normally suffers from negative publicity. The colourful video for “We Are Africans – Zimbabwe All-Star Remix”, will be released on Zimbabwe’s Independence day, 18 April, but a trailer has been made available, and it is spreading virally, on the internet.

From the looks of the trailer, it is definitely an MTV level product.

Other young Africans who have come together recently for a combination are UK based, Malawi born Metamore and South African born, Vee Da-I, who came together for a song called “African Seeds”. Also, Maryland DC based Nigerian club disc jockey, Dee’Jay Don X, has been releaseing music by a lot of African born rappers in the US. These projects signify a turning point by young people from Africa, who obviously have come to realise that they are the masters of their own destinies and unity is the only way that they can achieve their goals.

Meanwhile, BKay N Kazz, who are working on their next project, an album called African Spirit (release date: 24 June 2011), are proving to the world that they cannot be stopped, as they have a date with Zimbabweans over the Independence weekend in their home country. They will be supporting mega-star Sean Kingston.

JJC has also been blazing hot with singles such as “Say Yes” and “Na Who” (King Lexy’s). It definitely is time for Africa. His album “African Dream” is also on the way and it is promising to be a banger.
