Tribute To Da Grin – DJ Don X Mix

RIP: Don X

RIP: Don X

If we do not commemorate our heroes, no one will. Diasporaw would like to join many who were remembering and celebrating the life of late Nigerian rapper, Da Grin, who died in a car crash, on 22 April 2010. We would like to share DJ Don X’s tribute mix with you as we remember the life of the promising rapper. A lot of of people expected this rapper to reach the heights that Tupac and Biggie Smalls reached, but unfortunately, he faced a fate similar to those rappers and is remembered in the same fashion in the African hip hop circles.

Da Grin made authentic hip hop music but rapped in his native, Yoruba language. He brought a strong African feel to the modern genre. He was in a class of his own. He was famously known for tracks such as “Ghetto Dream”, “Pop Pon Pon” and “Kondo”, among many others. A lot of his work was remixed, refixed and repackaged after his death and received a lot of attention from fans. A movie on his life and death was shown in Cinemas in Lagos on the anniversary of his death. You can download and enjoy Don X’s tribute mix by clicking here or on Dee’Jay Don X’s website. RIP Da Grin.
