African Face: Samira Hashi

The Face of Fashion4Africa event is a fund-raising initiative which focuses on exposing the amazing potential that is within the modern African textile industries, culture, music and arts from all states of the continent.

The event was launched on the first of May in London. The event in May was a showcase of designs and six designers battled it out for a trophy with a display of their heritage and culture through their contemporary cuts. Nigerian Grace Uchenna Iwobi’s outstanding designs earned the trophy in that competition. Runners up were Nigerian Asake Agoro and Ugandan Maureen Amooti respectively

The designers event was followed up by a modelling contest in December, where 15 girls from various African countries showcased their beauty while wearing special African designs. This was in search of a cover girl/boy for the Fashion4Africa campaign. At the time of the search, the coordinator and founder and director of Beauty In Business, Anna Nije said “The winner will have style, charisma and most of all natural beauty and command the runway”. That individual turned out to be 20 year old Somalian stunner Samira Hashi. Samira Hashi had pledged to not only represent Somalia but the whole Africa, as a winner. She also pledged to use her talent and skills to fund-raise for Fashion4Africa’s charity and bring awareness to the plight of improverished Africans. Samira’s qualities and message earned her the title among some strong and top class competitors. According to Fashion4Africa website, she will “have an ambassadorial role, as a representative of the African continent, working closely with high commissions worldwide.” She also went “away with an exclusive photoshoot with fashion & beauty photographer Karl Lake, renown for working with 50 Cent and Music Mogul, Damion Dash, a one year Cover Girl contract with Beauty In Business and Fashion4Africa to be featured in magazines, editorials, billboards around the country, TV interviews the list goes on.”

Beauty In Business’s had strong support from partners Sixoone Media and the judges included Fashion and Beauty Photographer, Karl Lake. Big brother star Makosi Musambasi was also in attendance.
