The Miss West Africa International judging panel has chosen the pageant’s new Queen. Maria Sawaneh is the new Miss West Africa International, the organisers have reported. The beautiful new Queen is from Gambia and lives in Germany.

Maria’s runners up are first and second princesses Zalia Maiga, from Mali and Hawa Kamara from Sierra Leone, respectively. Maria Sawaneh succeeds Sierra Leonean model Shireen Benjamin.

The Miss West Africa International pageant attracts West African models living in several countries across the globe, including countries in Europe, USA and of course Africa. It is arguably the best organised African international pageant.

This year’s pageant was held at the National Auditorium in Praia, Cape Verde.

The pageant did not disappoint in it’s appreciation of natural African talent as the top 3 featured a model with a cleanly shaven head, representing one of the many natural African appearances.

Again the patrons made it  clear  that an African model does not have to wear a weave or fancy braids to appear beautiful. Previously, Miss West Africa International-UK, judging panel crowned Madeleine Glatz, a dark skin model with short hair, their queen. We hope that this is a definition of a new dispensation and a revolution of African fashion, art and culture.

Once again congratulations.
