Seun Kuti Added to WOMAD

Musical: Seun Kuti

Musical: Seun Kuti

Singer and Instrumentalist Seun Kuti has been added to the line-up of the upcoming WOMAD UK music festival. Nigeria, Kuti joins several other outstanding global artists on the prestigious list.

Seun Anikulapo Kuti is the last born son of the iconic Nigerian artist , the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti and he is one of the sons who is keeping his father’s legacy alive. His stage shows and sound is reminiscent of the late Fela, and the unique presence is what is cherished by many fans of Fela’s, worldwide.

The artist will be flanked by his worldwide acclaimed band The Egypt 80, a band which he inherited from his father. Seun is one of the many prominent Kutis alongside his musician brother Femi. Both brothers most usually try to emulate their father’s signature performances, shirtless, presenting vocals a bit late and following grand entrances by saxophonists and traditionally dressed dancing girls. The girls are always dressed to show a bit of flesh and can be seen gyrating their posteriors provocatively all through the performances while also vocally backing the artist when he is singing.

According to the WOMAD Festival’s website “WOMAD (is)- World of Music, Arts and Dance the internationally established Festival, which brings together artists from all over the globe. The central aim of the WOMAD festival is to celebrate the world’s many forms of music, arts and dance.” Unlike may other entities, this organisation seems to be trying to bring good and genuine global music to the people and not trying to bring good and genuine people to rubbish music.

Among other global heavyweights, including Adjágas from Norway and The Bombay Royale, from Australia/India, South African acts Dizu Plaatjies and Ibuyambo Ensemble and Spoek will also be participating at the event between 25 and 28th July of this year.
