Joyful: African Childrens Choir

“The curious beauty of African music is that it uplifts even as it tells a sad tale. You may be poor, you may have only a ramshackle house, you may have lost your job, but that song gives you hope…”—Nelson Mandela

This Thursday, July 25, the Grammy-nominated African Children’s Choir will be joined by several Atlanta musicians plus Paste Best of Atlanta band The Lone Bellow at The Buckhead Theater in Atlanta. Embagga Means Party is a concert benefiting the Uganda-based choir along with producer Erin Levin’s documentary on the kids, Imba Means Sing.

The event begins with a cocktail hour where VIPattendees can meet the kids, who’ve performed all over the globe. With choirs in seven African countries, the program has provided education for more than 50,000 kids across the continent during its 30-year history.

In addition to the choir, Drew and Luke Amerson, Chris Cauley and Chinua Hawk will perform a few songs, and The ATL Collective will play through part of Paul Simon’s Graceland. This iteration of the collective will be made up of local bands including Little Tybee, Adron and the Shadowboxers.

New York’s The Lone Bellow will close out the night with a short set.
