What do you get if you cross a musician with a professional boxer and an aeronautical engineer graduate? The answer lies in the heart of Reading with the artist Kudzanai.

The married father-of-one has not only produced electrifying party beat tunes using his Zimbabwean roots, but is indeed a boxer by trade and has a degree in said aeronautical engineering.

The first burning question I have for this inspirational young man is how he combines the three very different disciplines.

“To be honest it’s a real heavy load,” says the 22-year-old, “as all require 100 per cent attention and focus.

“How I have managed to get away with it for this long is shocking to me.

“However as weird as it sounds, everything complements each other and has formed a routine to my pattern of life.

“The boxing and music to me are forms of expression, the aviation is a passion, pursuing them has only revealed the ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ statement is somewhat fraudulent.

“Self belief and love are key elements that make the impossible achievable. A little bit of boxing, aviation accompanied by music seems to be my five a day.”

Kudzanai Disney Huni started recording aged 11 as soon as he and his family migrated from Zimbabwe to Reading.

He sent his music to BBC Introducing a few months ago and as soon as I heard Mafaro, his African-tinged party vibe, I was hooked.

Clearly a natural, he says music is an “art that responds to me and makes me feel like I’m me”.

His inspiration comes from “experiences”, he adds.

“For real I’ve tried to stay as true to myself as possible in my music, I’ve learnt a lot from a short and accelerated life.

“To me it’s like I’m reciting moments from my life. Everyone has their story, this is mine.”

And there’s yet another string to Kudzanai’s bow. He set up a fashion, entertainment, social enterprise brand called Team CeeGee in 2008.

“We put on events, promote musicians and have created a network in the industry,” he says.

“We have worked with a variety of musicians based in Reading from producers to singers and rappers such as Ezra, Raresoundz, Luigi, Miss Mhobe, YoungHiltz, BLV and having worked with acclaimed producers from Jamaica, South Africa and Zimbabwe.”

And his aims for 2014?

“To take over the world… MUHUHAHAHAHAHA,” he says.

“We have a tour in Southern Africa mid June we have been asked to come for so this is exciting and were are looking forward to this experience.

“Preparing for that and producing more messages to inspire are the primary goals of this year coming.”
