Early Charts Bird for 2014: Fuse ODG
He has brought Afrobeat to the mainstream with the likes of dance-themed songs such as Azonto and Antenna, now Fuse ODG is proving that he is not a one trick pony. Just 2 weeks into 2014, he has managed to squeeze in “Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)”, a non-dance themed song into “The Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart (BBC Radio 1)”. As of 12 January 2014, the song sat comfortably in the top 10, at number 5, just one below Jason Derulo’s Trumpets and one above Ellie Goulding’s How “Long Will I Love You”.
The Ghana-UK rapper gleefully announced to his fans on Facebook with the words
WE DID IT. Thank you all so much. We give major thanks #TOP10 #TOP5 #OfficialUKCharts #MillionPoundGirl #BadderThanBad
Both Antenna and Azonto have received strong mainstream love, reaching major regular radio station playlists and mainstream club rotation, with their dance based themes. Million Pound Girl is not necessarily a dance-themed song, but is probably grabbing some attention, for it’s catchiness and lively Afrobeat-reggae/dancehall like vibe. The song has already been remixed by Jamaican Reggae-Dancehall star, Konshens. We guess it’s a good start of the year for Fuse and we look forward to seeing more milestones for him and expansion of Afrobeat domination via his expected project TINA.
