WOMAD Bound: Youssou N’Dour

WOMAD is one of the grand musical festivals of the south-west of UK. It’s not only prominent for the quality of artists and talent it brings together every year but also for its diversity. Founded by Thomas Brooman and Bob Hooton and hosted in Shepton Mallet, it has given its audiences over the years a reach to the performances of great musicians from across the world, including Africa.

This year’s African names on the list to perform at WOMAD are Senegal’s megastar Youssou N’Dour, legendary Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango Welsh and and Senegalese act Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita, the Justin Vali & Ny Malagasy Orkestra from Madagascar. They will get to share the scene with such greats as American singer-songwriter Bobby Womack and several others.

Others nominated are Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba from Mali, Ethiopian, Mulatu Astatke and  Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits from Zimbabwe.

Festival Dates: July 24-27
