Timbaland was summoned to the stage on Friday by host Pearl Thusi, at a press conference in Melrose ahead of the music festival at Centurion’s sports park (Centurion, Gauteng , SA).

“When I first heard about the idea of the show I thought it was ingenious,” Timbaland says.

He adds that people should expect ground breaking music at what he insists is not a concert but “a party” and “a celebration of what’s to come in the future.”

He spoke of how he’s been listening to South African music and how impressed he was.

“I will be working with a local artist soon, but can’t reveal who that artist is.”

The line-up of the show will feature a mixture of local artists, with the likes of Spoek Mathambo, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Black Coffee, Reason and house band MiCasa.

But most people are looking forward to Nas’ performance with New York-based music outfit Jingle Punks Hipster Project and The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

“It amplifies and breaks down the boundary,” said Duncan Gibbon of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra on his collaboration with Nas, as the American celebrates the 20 year anniversary of his classic album Illmatic.

Wiz Khalifa who didn’t make it to the press conference, will also be performing at the concert tomorrow.

As much as Castle Lite General Manager Andrea Quaye prayed for the cold weather, let’s hope it wont discourage fans from filling the park in Centurion.
