Miss South Africa Wins the Miss World Title

Miss USA, Elizabeth Safrit finished third, Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsár was named runner-up and Rolene Strauss, Miss South Africa went on to snatch the crown the pageant which was hosted in the ExCeL London in London, UK on Sunday December 14. 22 year-old Rolene was was crowned by Megan Young of the Philippines.

The medical student Rolene is desrcibed as bilingual (speaking fluent Afrikaans and English) and charitable.

125 contestants from countries incliuding Netherlands, Brazil, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Philippines and Kenya among others were vying for the crown.

This is the second major global modelling pageant that has gone to Africa, after Miss Angola, Leila Lopes won Miss Uvniverse in 2011.

The pageant, which is in it’s 64th year was held in it’s inaugural host country by Welsh actor and TV presenter Tim Vincent, Mr World Canada 2013 and Miss World 2014 web presenter Frankie Cena and Ms Young.

Chairman and owner of the Miss World Organisation Julia Morley, member of the National Assembly of France; Rudy Salles, past president of Variety International and former Red Cross worker during the Vietnam War; Jody Reynolds, plus former Miss World winners were among the judges.
