Singing Her Heart Out: Autumn Sharif

19 year old Londoner Autumn Sharif overcame her shyness to thrill judges on tonight’s The Voice UK show. The girl of Somalian descent highlighted before her performance how she was “a little bit shy, introverted….” followed with an uncomfortable grin and the words “I’m usually really really nervous every time i perform and it’s only when i get on the stage and the music starts playing, that I kind of become comfortable and just live in the moment” before stating that her mother was from Somalia and had lived there during the civil and how her migration to the UK for a better life had inspired her musical aspirations.

Ricky Wilson was the first judge to turn for her, barely 30 seconds after hearing Autumn sing Katy B’s “Crying For No Reason” and Welshman Tom Jones made sure he pressed his button seconds before Autumn’s last note dropped, making him the second judge to turn. The crowd and Autumn’s family all erupted in applause as she shed tears of joy just after she finished.

Tom Jones was full of praises of the singer and expressed how keen he was to see Autumn join his team, but that was followed by Ricky’s desperate call for the songstress to complete his team. Other judges, Will-I-Am and Rita Ora who had not turned, were equally complimentary of her, with Will calling her ‘amazing’.

Autumn chose to go with team Ricky in the end and expressed how grateful she was for the opportunity after she left the stage.
