AUDIO ALERT: Adele – Hello (Swahili Cover by Dela)

British songstress Adele’s single “Hello” has helped her massively extend her audience reach and fanbase with many singers jumping onto the cover bandwagon soon after it’s release, in order to showcase their individual perspectives. Outstanding renditions of the heartbreak anthem have come from the likes of Taps Mugadza and Joe Thomas among several others. One rendition (by a female artist) even features a rap verse by ‘the big boss’ Rick Ross, but as far as we are concerned, no-one has had the ingenuity to bring an African twist to “Hello”. Well, not until now of course. Kenyan Afro-pop queen Dela is the one who has stepped up to the plate to Africanise the song. The beautiful songstress has translated the song’s lyrics to Swahili and sung it flawlessly over a ‘translated’ soft acoustic beat. Her confidence, which comes out through Dela’s wonderful voice in the song, the use of Swahili language, cool ad-libs and instruments have definitely given the song a new identity.
